Welcome to Junior Prospect ("Junior Prospect," "we," "us," or "our"), an academic, college-readiness, and student-athlete profile platform for elementary, middle, and high school students. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Junior Prospect mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility, minors & parental consent

1.1 Roles. The Service supports three account roles: Student, Parent / Guardian, and Organization (colleges, schools, athletic programs, camps, verified coaches, academic programs, and nonprofits).

1.2 Students who are minors. The Service is designed to be used by minors with appropriate protections. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only as permitted by these Terms and only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian where required.

1.3 Parental/guardian consent. Where required by law (including, in the United States, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") for children under 13, and applicable state student-privacy and teen-privacy laws), a parent or legal guardian must provide verifiable consent before a minor's account is fully activated and before certain features (such as expanded profile visibility or messaging that involves the minor) are enabled. // TODO(legal): specify the exact consent mechanism and age thresholds with counsel.

1.4 Parent/guardian authority. A Parent account may connect to a Student account only through a two-sided connection confirmed by both parties. Connected parents have defined oversight rights, including approving conversations that involve their connected minor and reviewing certain uploaded materials.

1.5 Organizations. Organization accounts represent institutions or programs, not individuals seeking personal contact with minors. Organization access to student information and messaging is restricted as described in these Terms and in our Community Guidelines.

1.6 No misrepresentation of age or identity. You agree that all registration information is accurate and that you will not misrepresent your age, role, or identity.

2. Accounts

2.1 Account creation. You must provide accurate information to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for activity under your account.

2.2 One role per account. Each account has a single role (Student, Parent, or Organization). Role-specific features and permissions follow from that role.

2.3 Security. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account. We are not liable for losses caused by unauthorized use you could have prevented.

2.4 Verification. Verification status for organizations and certain accounts is determined by Junior Prospect (or its trusted administrators), not self-assigned. A "verified" badge is a limited trust signal and is not an endorsement, guarantee, or warranty about the verified party.

3. Acceptable use

3.1 You agree not to:

  • contact, solicit, harass, exploit, or endanger any minor, or attempt to circumvent the Service's messaging restrictions or parental-consent gates;
  • collect, scrape, or harvest other users' personal information;
  • post or transmit unlawful, harmful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, exploitative, deceptive, or privacy-invasive content;
  • impersonate any person or organization or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • attempt to defeat, bypass, or probe the Service's security, privacy, or safety controls;
  • use the Service to make or imply guarantees of admission, scholarships, recruiting outcomes, or athletic eligibility;
  • upload another person's documents or images without authorization; or
  • use the Service in violation of any applicable law.

3.2 Safety controls. You acknowledge that the Service restricts adult-to-minor messaging, keeps student profiles private by default, and may review, hold, quarantine, or remove content and may suspend or terminate accounts to protect users — particularly minors.

3.3 Full behavior expectations are in our Community Guidelines (docs/legal/COMMUNITY_GUIDELINES.md), which are incorporated into these Terms.

4. Content & intellectual property

4.1 Your content. You retain ownership of content you submit (profile information, documents, photos, videos, posts, messages — "User Content").

4.2 License to operate the Service. You grant Junior Prospect a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process, display, and transmit your User Content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service and to provide the features you use, subject to your privacy settings and applicable law. This license ends when your User Content is deleted, except for copies retained for safety, legal, or backup purposes as described in our Privacy & Safety documentation.

4.3 Responsibility for your content. You represent that you have the rights necessary to submit your User Content and that it does not violate these Terms or any third party's rights.

4.4 Our IP. The Service, including its software, design, and trademarks, is owned by Junior Prospect or its licensors and is protected by law. You may not copy, modify, or reverse-engineer it except as permitted by law.

4.5 Third-party data. Certain college information is derived from the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard, a public third-party data source. See docs/legal/DISCLAIMERS.md.

5. Organizations & verification

5.1 Organizations may create discoverable listings and search for students only within the limits set by student privacy settings and the Service's safety controls. Saving a student is not the same as messaging a student, and does not grant contact rights.

5.2 Organizations may not message a minor without the required parental approval. Verification does not waive this restriction.

5.3 Junior Prospect may request documentation to verify an organization and may grant, withhold, suspend, or revoke verification at its discretion. Verification is a limited trust signal and not a guarantee.

6. Disclaimers

6.1 Guidance only. Junior Prospect provides informational and planning tools. Readiness scores, peer benchmarks, college match estimates, and scholarship suggestions are guidance only and may be inaccurate or incomplete.

6.2 No guarantees. Junior Prospect does not guarantee or promise college admission, scholarships or financial aid, athletic recruitment, or NCAA (or any athletic-association) eligibility. See docs/legal/DISCLAIMERS.md.

6.3 "AS IS." To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

7. Limitation of liability

7.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, Junior Prospect and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, opportunity, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

7.2 To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of [amount, e.g. USD 100] or the amounts you paid us for the Service in the [12] months before the claim.

7.3 Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. // TODO(legal): reconcile with consumer-protection and minor-specific limitations with counsel.

8. Termination

8.1 By you. You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time, subject to our data-retention practices.

8.2 By us. We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, if required to protect users (especially minors), or as needed to comply with law.

8.3 Effect. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including content licenses for retained copies, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute terms) survive.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, in-app notice). Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. Where required by law, we will obtain renewed parental consent before applying material changes to a minor's account.

10. General

10.1 Governing law / disputes. [Governing law, venue, and any dispute-resolution or arbitration terms — TODO(legal).]

10.2 Contact. Questions about these Terms: [legal/support contact].

10.3 Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Community Guidelines, Disclaimers, and Privacy documentation, are the entire agreement between you and Junior Prospect regarding the Service.
